We had a tough night with no sleep as a busy mosquito kept us awake until 4am where it finally met its destiny. As we planned visiting the giant pyramids all day, this was not an optimal condition for us. Before that, we needed to pay and get our changed airplane tickets, and the expedition turned out to be very time consuming. Finally, we had to skip the pyramids for this day.
While waiting for our new tickets we visited an Internet café and got the opportunity to write emails to friends and family. We were still tired and as city-tourism is challenging, we decided to relax for the rest of the day.
On our way to the Anthropology Museum last Tuesday, we passed the Zoo. That would be an appropriate event for today. Their main attraction is the rare red pandas, which we unfortunately missed, but we met colorful parrots, eagles, condors and exotic animals as lions, elephants, rhinos, ice bears and alike.
The zoo is big with lots of space and well kept. While being there we faced rain that was surprisingly strong. The water kept falling cats and dogs and shortened our visit in the zoo quite a bit. We were happy that we remembered to bring an umbrella.
We got lunch at one of the many stalks on the streets. They do tacos and tortillas with chili and lime fruit that apparently goes with anything. It was cheap, tasted well and strong.
Later we went for dinner in the restaurant next to the hotel and got a strong local version of the “Margerita” and “Sangria con Vodka” long drinks. As we have had Mexican cuisine for some days, we decided to have a regular steak, but were disappointed again. The good recommendations we had got about the Mexican cuisine did not match. Hopefully the best was to come.
