Faeroe Islands and Iceland - 1999 - Farewell to Iceland

Saturday 24 July 1999

Most of us get up well groggy and worn out this morning. We are getting used to the bright nights by time, but after our nightlife experience in downtown Reykjavik we didn’t care anyway. Our morning shower is done at the swimming pool and here we plan to do shopping most of the day, among others for Icelandic woolen clothes.

Hagen and I find a sale and buy some nice shirts and trousers, which surprisingly pays when doing it tax-free. We also succeed buying woolen souvenirs to prove “we have been here” and my subject was a large thick plaid that seems perfect for cocooning in the Danish winter.

We use all the afternoon in Reykjavik swimming pool playing with the local kids and enjoying the hot pools. Slowly we prepare ourselves of the fact that the holiday is nearly over. At the campsite things are being packed, the last postcards written and everyone organized so we won’t panic next morning.

We hit the beds quite early this evening after leave-taking with Hagen who goes home a day later than us. We leave our remaining food to him and go sleeping.
